The oystercatcher is a distinctive large, stocky, black and white wading bird. It is easily recognisable by its bold contrasting colouring and its long, orange-red bill. In flight, it shows a wide white wing-stripe, a black tail, and a white rump that extends as a ‘V’ between the wings.
\Tends to feed by probing in the mud for large marine worms and molluscs and is known to prise shellfish from rocks or seaweed
